Every winter global play professionals brave the cold and gather in Manhattan to explore what’s new among hundreds of thousands of products at the American International Toy Fair. Among the savvy toy insiders attending will be Laurie Peterson, the founder of Build & Imagine, a toy start-up creating award-winning magnetic dollhouses. NY Toy Fair ’18 visitors can meet Peterson February 17-20, and discover her must-have building collection, at Booth 6262 in the Modern Design section on Level 1.
Laurie Peterson knows what’s best for young imaginations and aspirations! As founder of Build & Imagine, she won the prestigious Rising Star Toy Inventor of the Year, given jointly by Toy & Game Inventors Conference and The Chicago Toy & Game Fair. In past years her magnetic building sets were finalists for two TOTY awards (“Construction Toy of the Year” and “Rookie of the Year”), and the Toy Industry Association (TIA) highlighted Build & Imagine at its annual toy trends briefing for exemplifying the annual trends “Maker Movement”, “Open-Ended Playtime”, “Smart Play” and even “Under the Sea” with Build & Imagine’s Marine Rescue Center playset.
Adventurous female characters and rich narrative details are the “icing” of every Build & Imagine magnetic building set. The concept behind building-then-spinning a tale is to empower children to construct customized scenes that spark storytelling. Each themed set comes with building panels, magnetic dress-up dolls, and dozens of magnetic accessories. Without cords, Wi-Fi or batteries, these building sets inspire children, especially girls, to build their own structures developing foundational STEM skills as they play. As inventor and entrepreneur Peterson describes it, Build & Imagine offers a new generation a “mash up between building blocks and a dollhouse.”
